New Year’s Eve Plans

Dear Marty,
What’s the best thing to do on New Year’s  Eve?

Keep expectations low.

New Year’s Eve is the most overblown day of the whole year. It’s never as good as you would like it to be. All you can do is get together with some close friends, grab a bunch of alcohol, and keep expectations low.

Here’s what you don’t want to do: stand in an overcrowded bar, paying too much for drinks, surrounded by strangers who you would hate if you ever got a chance to talk to but fortunately the music is too loud to hear a thing.

It all starts when you’re getting dressed. You probably have the newest and nicest shirt you got from Christmas picked out and the second you put it on your expectations for the night are going to skyrocket. Do yourself a favor. Don’t get dressed up. Don’t get expensive alcohol. Don’t shower. Show up, get drunk on cheap liquor and try to be back in bed before the ball drops.

If you’re lucky you’ll keep those low expectations running all through 2019!

Tired,
Marty
