Dear Marty,
Recently a buddy of mine told me that he wouldn’t date a girl who’s favorite show was “Law & Order”. I thought this was a bit tough but he went on to explain that the show follows a really basic structure and anyone who gets excited over it must not be that bright. Is this fair?
First off, give your friend a congrats from me. I mean the young man is turning girls away? Back in my day if a young lady let you into her bedroom then you were just happy to be there. It didn’t matter what she looked like or what she was into let alone a silly TV show. Heck, I didn’t care if she had a criminal past. Just happy to be here.
But to answer your question, I don’t really like to judge people based on their TV preferences. It’s kind of unfair to poke fun at people based on what they like to watch when they are turning their brain off. Also, who really gets to judge what is good TV vs bad TV. Big Bang Theory has been the top comedy on TV for years now. Who knows?
Here’s where I’ll draw the line. If the person who likes Law & Order also makes fun of or thinks they are better than reality TV then you can absolutely judge them for their TV choice. If they can’t figure out the ending to an episode of Law & Order in the first ten minutes then they sure as hell can’t keep up with those Kardashians.
Tired,
Marty
