You Should Have To Pay More For Fights That End Early

Sports commentary is full of bad opinions. It’s actually almost exclusively bad opinions. But the one that annoys me the most is when people are angry for paying for a fight that ended early. That was the general consensus following Conor McGregor’s shocking 40 second victory in his comeback fight this weekend

I can’t believe I payed for the fricken fight and then it only lasted 40 seconds

I simply can’t fathom how people think this makes sense. Fighting isn’t like other sports. You don’t get a full four quarters no matter what. It’s completely up in the air. AND THAT’S THE BEST PART! The reason that you are on the edge of your seat for a fight and not a mid-season basketball game is because one punch can turn the whole event on it’s head. Could you imagine if one dunk had the same effect. Lebron posterizes someone and the refs call game. You’d have adrenaline running through your veins the whole time. That’s why combat sports are so exciting. There’s so much at stake and every moment matters.

But let’s talk about the alternative for a second because one thing the internet enjoys doing is complaining about something without talking about what the other options are. For those of you who are mad that the fight ended within a minute, would you prefer that it went five rounds without having a big moment. Would you have preferred a completely unmemorable experience that just happened to last the full five rounds? Great, it’s boring and long! Did Scorsese direct this?

Conor finishing this fighting in the first round was the height of entertainment and anyone that disagrees is a dweeb.
