Stein vs. The Field: Week 13 Thanksgiving Special

Happy Thanksgiving! Everybody knows the best part of this holiday is alcohol and a full slate of sports betting. Allow me to be your guide.

Make sure you get your bets in early in the day, because you’ll get yelled at by your parents if they see you placing them on your phone at the table. And don’t make it too obvious you’re leveraged a few clams when you’re screaming on the couch next to your eight-year-old niece.

Week 12: 5-8

2019 Season: 71-65-3

THE THANKSGIVING GAMES

Chicago Bears at Detroit Lions (+4.5)

Thursday, Nov 28 – 12:30 EST

The Thanksgiving slate kicks off with a yawn. Neither of these teams are making the playoffs, and neither of them are very interesting.

But that’s the beauty of gambling – it can make anything interesting! The Lions are coming off an absolute clunker last week, but the thing is, I have no reason to believe they’ll be able to bounce back. Meanwhile, the bears looked uninspiring in their win over the Giants last week.

On paper, the Bears should easily cover, but the real-life Bears haven’t been able to live up to any of their potential. Take them and pray

Pick: Bears -4.5

Buffalo Bills at Dallas Cowboys (-6.5)

Thursday, Nov 28 – 4:30 EST

The Bills havde the NFL’s toughest remaining schedule, so it would be understandable if they overlooked this game. But the Bills have the coaching edge here – Sean McDermott has done a much better job to-date than Jason Garrett has. This is the overachievers vs. the underachievers.

Garrett justifiably took a lot of heat last week for how he coached that game vs. the Patriots. He’s gonna come out scared.

This is a lot of points to spot the Bills. Take them.

Pick: Bills +6.5

New Orleans Saints at Atlanta Falcons (+6.5)

Thursday, Nov 28 – 8:20 EST

Okay, so listen up. As good as the Saints have been this year, they haven’t been great against the spread. So while this line may look juicy – just beat the Falcons by a touchdown! – it’s not that simple.

Meanwhile, while I had a down week last week, one thing I sniffed out was that the Falcons were WAY overrated by Vegas coming into that Buccaneers game after winning two straight. Despite what I said above, I still think the Falcons are being overrated. They smacked the Saints last time, and that’s not gonna happen twice.

Take the Saints.

Pick: Saints -6.5
