Best Songs Of The Decade (2020 – 2029)

Okay, so the new decade came and went and I completely goofed on putting out my “best of the decade” list. That’s a big oopsie on my part. So since that boat has totally passed and I want to make sure I don’t miss a moment like that again I’ve decided to get a jump start on the next decade before anyone else does. So without further ado, I present my favorite songs that have been released between the years 2020 and 2029:

  1. “Yummy” by Justin Beiber

An absolute no brainer for song of the decade. The pop boy sensation has done it again. And by done it again I mean release a song at the absolute start of the decade.

*Quick note before I proceed with the list. So full disclosure, I haven’t listened to the rest of the songs on the list. I don’t have Spotify premium and once I ran out of skips I wasn’t just going to sit through the entire new releases playlist like an idiot. I’m sure you can understand. The remainder of the list will be judged on different but still valid criteria:

2. “Changes” by Lauv

Going to have to trust Spotify on this one. They decided to put Mr. Lauv in the second spot on their new releases playlist and that’s enough proof for me. This is the second best song of the decade so far.

3. “Wrong Direction” by Hailee Steinfeld

“Wrong Direction” by Hailee Steinfeld was an obvious choice for the number 3 song of the decade for two main reasons. First off, I recognized her name. While scrolling the new releases playlist, I was able to confidently pause when I saw Ms. Steinfeld and say to myself “hey I’ve seen that name before, she definitely makes music”. For me, that was a huge positive. Second, and more importantly, Ms. Steinfeld had the wherewithal to release this song just days after the start of the new decade. Timing is everything.

4. “I Can Hardly Speak” by The Bombay Bicycle Club

Okay here is where it starts getting a bit tricky. Haven’t not listened to the remainder of the songs or ever hearing of the remainder of the bands my official “Best Songs Of The Decade List” had to resort to which band names I thought had the best potential to produce a hit. Bombay Bicycle Club felt like a good bet. It’s also worth mentioning, like the other performers, that this group’s greatest strength may be their ability to release a song at the beginning of the decade.

5. “Victim Of A System” By Rat Boy

Yikes. To be honest, this one is a complete guess so I’m going to do my best to talk about what I think this song is about.

Clearly, this is a politically charged anthem (I think?). The always righteous Rat Boy delivers his usual brand of anti-establishment music (maybe?). Rat Boy once again puts his foot down and gives us a memorable melody in his continued fight for justice (probably?). One thing’s for sure though, Rat Boy released this song right at the beginning of the decade.

And there we have it. Those are my Best Songs Of the Decade (2020 – 2029). Okay so obviously there is a ton of time left in the decade but I’m pretty confident that this list will hold up.
