Uh oh, what’s that? Looks like another… WOJ BOMB! lol.
I mean no disrespect by my question but I honestly can’t figure out why there are just certain journalists (Woj, Schefty, etc.) who have become wildly popular for their “ability” to break sports news on Twitter.
I mean I understand why people are interested in breaking sports news but I can’t figure out how this small group of journalists got chosen to be the premiere news breakers. I mean did they win the lottery?
There’s no inherit skill in what they do. Anyone can do it especially other journalists. If they pitched their job on Shark Tank Mr. Wonderful would tell them that there is nothing proprietary about what they do. And yet they are the only ones who get to do it. On a wide scale at least.
So what’s their competitive advantage? The only thing that separates them is that teams send them the news first? Why do they do that? Did these guys pay off every team? Bribe them? Have an embarrassing picture of them from the Christmas party? Honestly, what is in it for the teams?
Which brings me to my next point: why don’t teams break their news themselves? I understand that each team does have a PR team but how are they always getting beat by these reporters? If I ran an organization I would snake out these “leakers”. People in the organization are benefiting in some manner by sending team news to reporters and it seems widely accepted. It’s negligent if you ask me.
