The 4 O’clock Slate Of Football Games Feels Like A Saturday With Two Bar Mitzvahs

This is a super niche blog. Not everyone will be able to relate to it but I don’t care. I’ve been searching for a way to describe this feeling I experience every football Sunday and I’ve finally found it: The 4 o’clock slate of football games feels like a Saturday with two bar mitzvahs.

For just a second, let me take you all back to 2007, the greatest goddam year of your life. You’ve just left the “Rachel goes to Hollywood” Bat Mitzvah , changed from your blue silk shirt into your fresh nighttime white silk shirt, and now you’re standing in the lobby of “Bryan’s Rock N’ Rolling” Bar Mitzvah. Hor d’oeuvres have just started coming out. And you just can’t help but think to yourself “Holy shit we get to do this all over again for the next 4 hours. How lucky are we?”

That’s what 4 o’clock on football Sunday feels like to me. Just as the dust clears from the fireworks of the 1 o’clock games, and you step out into the afternoon sun for a momentary break, you see the Rams or the Chargers or even the Raiders sitting at 0-0 with fifteen minutes left in the first quarter. It’s like every week I can’t believe we get to do it all over again at 4 o’clock. By this point in my life I should be prepared for this but nope every week it’s like a nice little surprise. Every Sunday we get to go to Hollywood and have a Rock N’ Rolling time. How lucky are we?
