I’m Already Tired Of Football

So tomorrow evening is the first game of the NFL season and I’m already seriously tired of football. Uh oh.

Listen, don’t get me wrong, I’m a huge football fan it’s just that, well, it’s too much. We do it to ourselves. As America’s pastime has become next to irrelevant, and the other exciting sports like basketball and hockey can’t even sniff the football season, a lot of pressure has been built around the NFL.

I mean the hype leading up to the season alone is exhausting. I feel like it starts earlier and earlier every year. We’re a few years away from football hype starting days after the Super Bowl.

And again, I enjoy hype. It gives us something to look forward to. But then, after the pump up videos, preseason chatter, and multiple fantasy drafts, the first football weekend rolls around and you realize what you just got yourself into. It’s a huge responsibility. People forget that. It’s Thursday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and if you care about fantasy waiver wires, Tuesday as well. That’s all the days I think.

I mean at a point that’s pretty darn close to homework, no? Now you’ll say “hey Daniel why don’t you just casually watch whenever you get the chance?” Nope not possible. Not in 2019. There is no such thing as casual fans and hardcore fans in 2019. Everyone is a hardcore fan and if you aren’t then you are just not considered a fan. Don’t believe me? Try giving your casual opinion to any hardcore fan. They’ll throw some wild stats out from their brain right into your face. The 2019 fan is too sophisticated for their own good. Back in the 80s people just enjoyed when the big dudes hit into each other. But in 2019, with the internet, fans understand the intricacies of contract negotiations and how teams can advantageously restructure their cap space. Every fan is a general manager. It’s work.

So I have to bow out.

And by that I mean maybe I won’t watch every Thursday night game sometimes, but also I probably still will.
