Subway Style: Levi’s Is The New Supreme

Welcome to Subway Style, the fashion section of the blog.  I love fashion. Always have. And while I have never been able to really dress myself I’ve always had an eye for what’s about to pop. Believe me I wish I had a different talent but nope spotting patterns is all I got. I think I got it from my dad.

Originally, this was going to be posted as a humor piece. The idea behind this blog started as complete satire. I kept seeing the white Levi’s shirt with the red logo and it reminded me a lot of the infamous Supreme red box logo shirt. But I haven’t stopped seeing it since. Now I don’t know if it’s one of those things where I’ve just become overly aware of these shirts so when I see one it registers double in my brain, like when you buy a car and then see that same car everywhere, or if these shirts are just the new wave but I’m starting to think it’s the latter.

Here’s what I’m thinking, the “red box logo on a white shirt” look has officially been inducted into the classic style hall of fame and thus it’s never going out of style no matter what becomes trendy. It now sits up in the rafters with the James Dean white shirt and leather jacket combo, converse chucks, and just like blue jeans. What I’m trying to say is that this look just pops and thus it will be cool forever.

But I think there is something even deeper going on here. There is a noticeable shift happening. When we left the era of pounding our chests over expensive brands, such as Gucci and Louis Vuitton, we entered the era I like to call No Brand No Man’s Land. I’ve actually never said that before but it’s pretty catchy so let’s go with it. Basically, over the past few years, rocking a brand was not cool and going with a plain shirt devoid of a brand’s logo was the move. I personally hold Hollister and Abercrombie accountable for this. I didn’t own a damn shirt in 7th grade that didn’t have some kind of bird flying near the nipple. But I think we’ve officially entered a new era; The Wack Brand era. Rocking brands is back as long as the brand is wack. It’s now cool to show up in a fit that features a brand that is generally considered uncool. Let me see those Old Navy sweatshirts. Gimme those Puma sneakers. And of course that brings us back to the start with those Levi t-shirts.

So you hear that hypebeasts? Close the laptop, head to the back of your closet, and dust off that Von Dutch hat because wack is back.
